As most of the Indians know the story of Ramayan , the sacrifices made by Lord Rama , Devi Sita and Lakshman, but most of them don’t know about the big sacrifice made by URMILA, wife of Lakshman . As Lord Rama had to go into fourteen years of exile due to the wish of his step mother Kakeyi . Sita had the good fortune of going with her husband but Urmila was not that fortunate as Lakshman refused to take her with him as he would be unable to serve Lord Rama and Devi Sita as his full focus will be on Urmila. Urmila understood her husband’s sentiments. She wore a new dress and heavy jewellery to annoy Lakshman. She did this to make her husband believe that she was happy to see him go for fourteen years so that he does not think of her at all. This way Lakshman could give his full attention to Lord Rama and Devi Sita . Urmila spent fourteen years sleeping as she waited for her husband. Being a princess she left her luxurious life. She is a big inspiration for all of us as she taught us perseverance and righteousness. She was able to cope with emotions and lived a “ life of a hermit ”
