In this digital world, where children are increasingly wired to social media and the internet, the concerns of cyber security, cyber bullying, cyber hygiene are pertinent. Parents too need to be well-informed of what steps they can take to keep their children safe. With this notion, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Lucknow hosted an interactive session by India’s renowned Cyber Security Expert, Mr. Rakshit Tandon. He is a Director/ Founder of ‘HackerShala’ and Advisor of Cyber Crime Unit, State Police. He’s also the Director Executive of Council of Information Security. He has conducted 10,000+ workshops in more than 90 cities and has interacted with 30,50,000 students. He has won many awards, the most recent being ‘Karamveer Jyoti Puraskar 2019’.
The session was conducted in two phases where he interacted with the students, parents and staff separately.In the first session, he interacted with the kids and discussed about the trending apps and games. The kids were told about the legal aspects of accessing the internet like the legal age, ethics and rules of using social media and gaming. The parents and students were advised to handle real and virtual life judiciously. The audience were introduced to various terminologies like Cyber Bullying, hacking, fishing, cloning, data theft, digital frauds and grooming. The difference between ethical hacking and hacking was clarified to the audience and the consequences of Digital Personification were told.
Several case studies were shared with the audience and they were further sensitized towards privacy and security of data. Five values- Responsibility, Respect, Compassion, Resilience and Integrity were emphasised and the Cyber Laws of India were shared with the audience. The resource person demonstrated live hacking and made them aware about various ways like two-step verification, comment control, using a strong password, etc that they can adopt in order to avoid Cyber Crimes.
He concluded the session by sharing some tips for internet banking and safe online transactions. He also shared the website for reporting Cyber Crimes. Women and children can report anonymously on www.cybercrime.gov.in. Internet is a technology, not a toy and we should harness it carefully. Your safety is in your hands. Stay alert, stay safe!
