F1 in Schools is an international STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) competition for school children, in which groups of 3–6 students have to design and manufacture a miniature car out of the official F1 Model Block using CAD/CAM design tools. The cars are powered by CO2 cartridges and are attached to a track by a nylon wire. They are timed from the moment they are launched to when they pass the finish line by a computer.
One such workshop was conducted at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Lucknow from 17th August to 21st August. All of the participants were excited to undergo the session. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Rajesh Yadav & coordinated by our Computer Teacher, Mr.Vivek Singh.
On day one students were briefed about Autodesk software where they had to design their car model. They were divided into four groups bearing the following names:
- Game Changers
- Trail Blazers
- Go Getters
- Dream Makers
Students were then told and guided how they can login into Autodesk software through their Gmail account and what are the basic functions in car designing in F1 that need to be focused in order to avoid the failure of car at the time of race. They were able to make the Box patch of car which is the basic architecture to design the car.
On day two students were told how the box patch can be trimmed to various dimensions giving the shape of light weight car which does not get damaged at the time of race. They applied various functions present in auto desk 360 fusion software to provide shape of car from Box patch (the basic design of car) applying various science , engineering , mathematics and technology formulas.
On the third & the final day students were instructed about how aerodynamic car is carried forward from rectangular box and how to maintain a light weight car making it look attractive. They checked their design on the FLOW DESIGN application to check the intensity of car with respect to flow of air.
Future implementations are as follows:
- Designing of presentation on the model developed for car giving clear reasons in support of design.
- Modification of car on the technical parameters and regulations defined by times of sports.
- Making car look attractive and aerodynamically light weight.
- Checking the FLOW DESIGN of car after each implementation.
The dates for the All India Finals are yet to be announced.
