In early February this year an informal chat with the ayahs, peons and drivers of the school with the Principal revealed that they had never thought of bettering their lives or learning new skills. All they needed was a spark when they were told that the more they learned and enhanced their skills, the chances of new opportunities opening up for them would be greater. They were told how technology not only pervades our lives but has the ability to transform it.
Armed with the insights gained from this interaction, it was clear that they all wanted to know and learn about the Computer and it’s use.
Another area they showed interest in was learning to read and write, both English and Hindi.
We began after school classes for them on 8th February and what is heartening is their childlike eagerness, curiosity and drive to learn and make progress. They have already learnt about the Computer, it’s parts and functions, how to turn it on and off, how to use a mouse and much more. This outreach program will soon become student driven and personalized so that each learner gets individual attention.
Currently the staff is being tutored by the School It Head and team.
