Five students of classes eight and nine of our school along with the Computer teacher Mr Mohit Goswami participated in the Annual Ed Tech Summit held at Neemraana last week. Such Summits facilitate collaboration and partnerships amongst stakeholders across the length and breadth of the education sector.
Design thinking relies on our ability to be intuitive, to recognize patterns, to construct ideas that have emotional meaning as well as functionality, to express ourselves in media other than words or symbols. We need students to think about real and authentic challenges in the world today. We need them to think about the challenges that we face as individuals and society as a whole; also global challenges of health, poverty and education.
At the two day workshop, the students were encouraged to think of developing new strategies that result in differences that matter. Design Thinking for Social Change provides tools for visualisation and applying design-thinking methodology to specific challenges. Students were taught empathy during the process helps identify these challenges.
Two days of the conference saw participation over 100 schools across India. Several schools showcased their projects at the summit, and their projects were evaluated by their fellow peers. Other schools created fresh prototypes, as they start their design-thinking journeys. College students and Industry experts provide the schools with constructive feedback.
Teacher representatives went through parallel sessions with the industry experts like Mr. Rajendra Pawar, Chairman and Founder NIIT group and Prof. Vijay Vasntro MandkePh.D. (1970) M.Tech. (1967) IIT, Kanpur, B.Tech (1965) IIT, Bombay Electrical Engineering and Management officials from NIIT University, Neemrana. There was also a session by Mrs. Sangeeta Gulati, a Google expert on using Google classroom and Google tools in teaching.
The second day of the summit saw participation from EdTech companies, government officials, school leaders, educators and edupreuners, as they all congregate under the same roof to discuss various matters of interest pertaining to the Education sector. The students got an opportunity to work with different technology and interact with the experts from Mindbox.
Our school team has been shortlisted to prepare prototypes of the design made by them. This will have to presented in next year’s Ed Tech Summit.
