The new ‘gig’ economy, with its changing dynamics and evolving careers, has created new opportunities for students, but more often than not, parents and students do not have access to timely and credible information about the available career choices.
Therefore, career counselling at the school level helps students answer important questions about what to study, where to study, and how to make it happen.
At Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Lucknow the endeavour is always to call experts of various fields for not just guiding students but also to give them an insight of the real industry scenarios.
One such session was conducted by our valued parent Ms. Garima Kakkar who is presently heading the Retail and Fashion Merchandising department at FDDI Fursatganj on 7th August ’21.
Her session on careers in designing was comprehensive and an eye-opener in various aspects. She spoke about the versatility of the designing field and said that gone are the days when people just thought that designers are confined to opening boutiques and stitching clothes.
She categorically said that every child is gifted with one unique talent and it is important to realize one’s own strengths and weaknesses before listing down a career choice. She told the students about the fields of fashion communication, footwear designing, graphic designing, knitwear designing, leather designing, design consultancy and textile designing. She emphasised that if they are able to draw motivation with things around them then they must choose the design field. She spoke at length about the various degrees which the students can pursue after grade 12thand also answered the questions posed to her
The children took a virtual tour of the FDDI campus at Fursatganj where Ms. Kakkar is currently posted through a video shared by her. She told the students that FDDI has 12 campuses all over India.
The Principal Ms. Poonam Kochitty asked her if our students could visit her campus someday and she was kind enough to give her consent.
