Blogbait – Effective Time Management
“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning and focused effort.” – P. J. Meyer
Time management is the process of planning and controlling how much time to spend on specific activities. Good time management enables an individual to complete more in a shorter period of time, lowers stress, and leads to success. That is why procrastination is the foundation of all disasters.
The paradigm shift to online teaching and learning mode, encouraged the educators to explore new tools to ensure 100% student engagement, peer learning and live assessments of the topics taught.
At Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Lucknow, we the educators embarked on this journey with the encouragement and guidance of our mentor, Ms. Poonam Kochitty, Principal. Her far sightedness was backed by Ms. Reetu Pandey, IT Head. Ms. Reetu explored and introduced us to new tools to help us make our classes interesting, engaging and fruitful. These tools ensure that in 40 minutes we are able toachieve maximum, being mindful of the comprehension level of the students.
Today in class X-A, I started the class with a quick assessment of Tenses with the help of Socrative tool. The students were quick to login and take the test. The responses were discussed in the class and later the report was posted on MS-Teams for reflection. Thereafter, while introducing the topic, poem- ‘A Tiger in the Zoo’, I used Thinglink to share facts about our national animal like – habitat, adaptation facts, levels of classification and why is it threatened. This was followed by discussing the data of tiger population in India and some of the Tiger Reserves in India. The discussion was followed by an activity where the students had to look at a picture and give an appropriate caption. Nearpod tool was used for picture caption activity. The students posted their responses and the entire class was able to view each other’s response. This engaged all the students to actively participate and record their responses. The responses were later shared on MS-Teams. It was exciting to accomplish all the tasks with the help of online tools which made the class interactive. All this in just 40 minutes!
I am grateful to our Principal, Ms. Poonam Kochitty for introducing digital literacy in the school. This has helped us to plan our classes and activities well. Good planning and effective time management has ensured productivity and a feeling of triumph over the situation created by the pandemic.
