Bibliophile Week Day 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 – Grade Ist & IInd

Day 1: 20.4.2020, Monday

The start of the third ‘Bibliophile Week’   saw an over enthusiastic response from the parents and children alike. The day started with an assembly and the topics were “Why is reading important?” and “Who is a Bibliophile?”  It was followed by the event ‘Show and Tell’ which aimed to provide the children of classes 1 and 2 a platform to express themselves and speak about their favorite object.  The children took to this virtual world with ease and spoke about things ranging from watch, racing cars, dolls, dinosaur, Spiderman, teddy bear and even their favorite fruits apple and mango. Shaarav Sharma, of class 1, also shared his passion for playing keyboard.

From the comforts of their houses and with their favorite things in their hand the children’s joys know no bound and they wanted the activity to continue for other days also.

Day 2: 21.4.2020, Tuesday

The Magic of Childhood can be seen and felt through the stories heard by our parents or grand-parents. Today in the current scenario when we are all safe inside our houses, the parents are able to give more time to their children and prepare them for the future.  With this message parents were asked to read aloud stories  and discuss the lesson learnt through them.  “Fairy tales are important not because they show children how life is, but because they give form to deep fears and dreams about life through fantasy.”  This was the message which the second day assembly put forward where the children were exposed to the various fairy tales and the characters in them. The assembly was followed by a foot tapping number “Go Bananas”, wherein the children danced and sang in glee along with the teachers. The children were overjoyed to learn action words like peel, chop, slice etc in the most fun-filled manner.

Day 3: 22.4.2020, Wednesday

Fables are a beautiful way to teach a child about morals, life lessons, and impart the wisdom of the ages in an engaging manner. Fables are stories that have been told throughout past generations, trickling down to the present to deliver important lessons about life, nature, love, friendship, and being a good person. The assembly on the third day of the Bibliophile Week exposed the children of grade 1 and 2 to the magic of fables not just of India but across the world. As ‘Quizzes’ is what delight the children the most, the activity on this day was based on a quiz about the famous story characters and the story to which they belong. The children as well as their parents enjoyed and were the keen participants of the quiz as the answers kept pouring in the chat box. Class 1 also listened to the story ’The Ant and the Grasshopper’ with rapt attention.

Day 4: 23.4.2020, Thursday

The day four of this week was celebrated as ‘The World Book Day’ and the children were told about the importance of books and reading. The purpose is to bring kids closer to the books and help them to discover more books and become lifelong readers. As one of the favorite activities of the children is drawing and coloring so the activity for the day was to encourage the children to design a book cover of their favorite book. The enthusiasm and the participation were overwhelming!

Day 5: 23.4.2020, Friday

The concluding day of the week was also quite eventful. The kids enthusiastically participated in the assembly which was about authors around the world and they also shared about their favorite one from the gallery of authors. After the assembly the children had fun learning punctuations in one of the most exciting manner where they were doing Kung –Fu steps in accordance with punctuation marks.

The Bibliophile Week had managed to evoke the interest of the children into reading along with their parents and in unison everyone agrees…
