“Dance is the hidden language of the soul’. A love for dance at an early age can help kids to stay active. It contributes to their holistic development-emotionally, socially, and cognitively. At SAJS Lucknow, Performing Arts has always been an integral part of the curriculum.From 20th to 25th July 2020, the primary school students witnessed some wonderful performances from renowned dancers of India. The students along with their parents not only enjoyed the sessions but also interacted with the experts& took some quick tips.The curtain raiser for the ‘Artist Week’ was a power-packed dance performance by Sana Sharma, a student of class VA on the song, Mahishasur Mardini.

Sharaav Sharma of class I B performed Bhangra on the second day which was highly appreciated by Mr. Adarsh Gupta. Mr. Gupta performed on the songs,‘Bum Bum Bhole & Jai Jai Shiv Shanker’ and told the students the story behind the Tandava Nritya of Lord Shiva.Ms. Mohini Tiwari performed a ‘Lavani & Kalbeliya dance” which the students just loved. She spoke about the importance of attire in any dance form and taught a few steps to the students too.Ms. Namita Srivastava took up some semi classical movements with the kids and motivated them to learn classical dance.

Mr. Harshit Shukla performed a Hip-Hop Dance on a piece of instrumental music that was breathtaking.Ms. Shinjini Sarkar’s Odissi Dance performance was mesmerizing. She taught some Mudras to the students and spoke about the origin & history of Odissi Dance style.The Artist Week culminated with a Contemporary dance performance by Mr.Anubhav Srivastava who also taught the students with some steps on the song, “Vande Matram”

The weeklong event was planned and executed by the two dance mentors-Ms. Sugandh Bakshi & Mr. Amit Gupta.
