Model United Nations Conference- 2019Seth Anandram Jaipuria School Ghaziabad
When the world is grappling with strife and discord, education has to take the onus of preparing the young minds to chart a course that heads towards peace and harmony. Envisaging this objective and with an earnest desire to turn it into a reality, Seth Anandram Jaipuria, Vasundhara, Ghaziabad launched its maiden edition of Model United Nations Conference- 2019 with the motto- “Sapientia I Pax I Fraternitas”- Wisdom, Peace, Fraternity. The conference was held in association with the most prestigious youth-led Organization of Delhi NCR- Sermonise. The two-day event conducted on 3rd and 4th August, 2019 was a completely student driven programme organized by MUNC students’ committee of the school in collaboration with school’s alumni and under the able guidance of MUNC Coordinator Ms. Sumita Vij. It aimed to bequeath a constructive forum to the adroit minds for open dialogue on complex global issues and find out pertinent solutions.
Dr. Jaagz Bajaj, Special Envoy UNESCO and Dr. Himanshu Sharma, Expert IUCN, UNESCO & European Commission graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively, on the first day. Other dignitaries present at the occasion were Ms. ManjuRana -Principal Cum Director, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Ghaziabad, Ms. V. Suprabha-Vice Principal, Head Mistress- Ms. Sonal Srivastava and Ms. Indu Kohli. The mega event observed the enthusiastic participation of about 15 schools in Delhi NCR and 250 students brainstorming under one roof for a global cause.
The Opening ceremony witnessed the auspicious advent with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp,followed by an effervescentorchestral performance, thus tuning the event to its right frequency. In the welcome address, The Principal cum Director- Ms. Manju Rana expounded the importance of such events in creating a young task force capable of reflecting on solemn issues concerning the world and thus making a difference through their ingeniousresolutions. Sheapplauded the efforts of MUNCcoordinator Ms. Sumita Vij, Alumni Members, the Secretariat, the Organizing Committee members and the collaborate partners for working assiduously to lay the foundation ground of this conference. The Chief Guest–Dr. Jaagz Bajaj urged the students to contribute their bit towards creating apeaceful world by being a part of deliberations held under MUNC.
The Secretary General, Aagya Rai, too explicated the role of MUNCs in engaging the youth in constructive discussions to make the world a better and secure place to live in. The conferencewas declared open and the students placed themselves in their respective committees for vivacious discussions on given agendas. Delegates in the committees like United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Human Rights Council, All India Political Party Meet, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Harry Potterand International Press pondered on the issues like Cyber Warfare, Cyber Security, Artificial intelligence, Legal status of Internally Displaced persons in Gulf and Africa, Politicisation of Indian Armed Forces, Internal Structural Defects in NATO, Revisiting Wizard and Muggle relations, Freedom of International press etc.
Two-day long deliberations ended on 4th August and in the closing ceremony The Chief Guest of the Day Ms. Sharmila Raheja- Principal Uttam School for Girls awarded the certificates and trophies to the winners from every committee in the categories of ‘Best Delegate’,‘High Commendation’ and ‘SpecialMention ‘for their meritorious performances. DPSGV was the proud recipient of the ‘Best School Delegation’ Award. The Executive Board Members were felicitated and lauded for holding insightful discussions in the committees and sagaciousadjudication. With the vote of thanks proposed by the Convener Shelly Dwivedi, the conference was declared closed. Culmination of the event was the beginning of a new perspective among the participants who saw themselves asan integral part ofthe globalsocietywith a set of novel goals for a novel world.
