Covid-19 (A Growing Pandemic Across The World)Seth Anandram Jaipuria School Ghaziabad
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by newly discovered corona virus. Corona virus is likely to be originated from bats. The disease was first reported in Wuhan, China on 31 December 2019, and later it was spread to other countries. ICTV announced “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)”as the name of the new virus on 11 February, 2020 and it was declared pandemic by World Health Organization on March 11, 2020.
Main symptoms of corona virus are :fever, dry cough and difficulty in breathing. Some people may experience aches, pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat and Diarrhea .On an average, it takes 5-6 days or up to 14 days for symptoms to show up, when someone got infected with the virus. People with mild symptoms, who are otherwise healthy, should self-isolate as a precautionary measure. It is advisable to seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
Till now, no medicines and vaccines are available to protect against this virus. Scientists across the world are working around the clock to find the treatment for the virus. Thus, we left with only one choice “Precaution” as it is said “Precaution is better than cure”. The simplest things we can do to protect ourselves from the COVID-19, is to follow social distancing whenever we go in public and frequently wash our hands with soap and water at least for 20 seconds, as recommended by WHO. We can also wipe our hands with alcohol based hand sanitizer and must wear a mask whenever we go out.
Nation-wide lockdown is a strong step taken by our government to break the chain and stop the spread of corona virus further. During lockdown, government is ensuring that all people should get food and other daily essential items. Government is also ensuring that there are proper isolation wards and other medical facilities available for patients.
The ongoing lockdown is having both positive and negative impacts. Positive impacts are reduction in air pollution, cleaner river water, liberated wildlife to name few. I recently read that largest-ever hole in the ozone layer above Artic finally closes. It looks like nature is healing itself. On the negative end, it is imposing great risk on our economy due to closure of factories, railways, airlines and other businesses. Millions of people around the world have lost their jobs due COVID-19 pandemic. The world is heading towards biggest-ever recession.
Hope this nightmare should end soon!!!!!
